I dedicate “The Crown of Thorns” to all who follow the path of the soul and its enlightenment / and particularly to absent friends of every kind and species, and of ancestry, whose pilgrimage has transcended the clay of our earthly realms. It was written during my personal odyssey of soul and sand, in my early twenties, when I first discovered that the soul walks on all paths and is often greatly deceived by institutional thinking and organized religions of every kind. I believe in the ideals of Christ but am apprehensive as regards our limited and agenda riddled knowledge of what is true. I trust in my intuition more than I ever will the words of man where my soul is concerned and I have lived a very rewarding and endlessly creative and inventive life for it. I see God as The Great Living Spirit That Moves In All Living Things, and they are myriad in every breath and every drop and every grain of sand, and I see every life form as Holy in ways that are, and will ever be, beyond our understanding. We can aspire to bear good fruit as that is always greatly blessed but, to me, God is The Great Unknowable and the self-serving arrogance of man to say more is questionable at best and does not serve the greater truth that we can only hope to discover upon our path.
“The Crown of Thorns” is an excerpt from my book: “Pilgrims on the Pathway.” This particular audio rendition was recorded on Radio WQDR / FM ( when it was still Rock n’ Roll ) in Raleigh by the Iconic Bob Walton, who introduces me, in the latter seventies when I was the frequent opening act for North Carolina’s own Legendary Folk Singer/Songwriter/Musician: MIKE CROSS at the Cameron Village Subway / Underground in the nightclub known as The Pier. I also staged performances of my own in that unique locale beneath the parking lot and also in CafĂ© Deja-Vu. Cheers!
* I wish to give a special acknowledgement to my friend and collaborator R.T. Crowley who is responsible for piecing my photography, film, and audio recording together in this remarkable way .
